The Malt Shop - Ephraim: Reviews & Ratings
Very good. Old school, malt shop. Great menu and so cute.
The Malt Shop is the first place my now-wife and I went on our first date or hangout. This place will forever make me smile when I drive by it. Recently, my childhood friends bought the Malt Shop from their parents (who have owned and run it for 70 years ), and they are not only continuing the tradition but also making fantastic improvements. Bradie has recently added gluten-free shakes to the menu, and GF food will be coming soon. She’s going to source the same buns used at Dairy Keen in Heber. They’re made by Mrs. Hewitts and are the best gluten-free buns. The malt shop could be the cleanest restaurant in Ephraim. They steam clean the floors like daily. They take cleanliness very seriously, which I appreciate. Lastly, the burgers, fries, and shakes are the best. The last time I was there, I got the King Burger, and it didn’t disappoint. If you want the best shake, ask for the “Kevin.” Jk, that's not a real thing, but it’s my favorite: vanilla, Snickers, and a little bit of root beer… Trust me. It’s amazing.
Small town malt shop and burger joint with lots of historic photos on the walls. Very cool vibe. The lady at the counter was very friendly and made us out-of-towners feel welcomed and appreciated. The food was… what you expect from a fast food burger hut. Mediocre cheeseburger (never thought I’d say this, but it was WAY too much cheese), and some decent Piccadilly chips. But what our food lacked in flavor, they made up for in experience. I can see why this place is popular.
The atmosphere was extremely fun. It had an old-time diner vibe. The food was average. The fries were good. I got a chocolate shake with peanut butter cups and the chocolate from the peanut butter cups tasted very old. The bathroom is on the outside of the restaurant, go around towards the drive-through and you’ll find it if you need it. There is a big menu board that doesn’t include the shake flavors. For some reason those are on a little card next to the register.
Tried the Malt Shop last weekend and it was a good choice. Showed up during a dinner rush but had decent food and didn’t have to wait too long. It is your classic small town diner vibe so you certainly will have fun with the esthetic, but note that it’s a small place with limited seating inside. It offers your classic choices of burgers, fries, sandwiches, shakes, and ice cream. I opted for the bacon burger with curly fries and a grasshopper shake, very tasty! But overall the food was pretty average and due to the rush and wait our fries were a little cold. I did love the shake though!
Grape ice cream, I had the best Oreo shake I have ever had. It was busy, but they made my order in a great time, pretty fast. The scooped ice cream is also delicious and it was huge.
You're in the middle of a small town with very few options. 5 stars for prompt and friendly service. Grilled cheese was as requested. Deep fried side offerings are what you'd expect. What's not to like?
The Malt Shop has excellent service, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. The food is excellent and reasonably priced considering the current economic conditions we live in. This is one of those restaurants that has absolutely amazing french fries. They have self-serve ketchup and fry sauce....and lots of it. If you have a big truck or pulling a trailer it's best to park on the road.

Among the restaurant's highlights is its comforting menu filled with classic favorites. Patrons rave about the King Burger—a towering delight that doesn't disappoint—and the fries that often earn their own accolades. While some dishes may tread the line of average, they are often overshadowed by the vibrant atmosphere and the sheer joy of indulging in nostalgic diner fare. It's worth noting that if you're seeking a shake experience unlike any other, you'll want to explore their extensive shake menu. One suggested creation, which I affectionately dub "the Kevin," combines vanilla, Snickers, and a hint of root beer; a unique blend that promises a sweet treat that's hard to resist!
